Elena Otero-Novas Is The New President Of The Spanish Court Of Arbitration

Lawyer Elena Otero-Novas has been appointed president of the Spanish Court of Arbitration . She succeeds Manuel Conthe at the head of this entity that was founded in Spain in 1981.

Through a press release, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce De Cell Number has announced that its Plenary Session has approved the appointment of Elena Otero-Novas as president of the Spanish Court of Arbitration. She is the first woman to preside over an arbitration court in Spain.


Elena Otero-Novas has stated in the statement issued by the entity that she hopes: “to contribute and add efforts to the relevant work that the Spanish Court team has been developing for the launch of the promising Madrid International Arbitration Center project, as well as as well as for the promotion of arbitration in general, also domestic arbitration; Through these actions we will help build an environment of greater legal security in the business field, a key element for the development of companies and therefore for the economic and social development of our country.”




Elena Otero-Novas is Secretary of the Board, Director and Director of the Legal, Regulation and Corporate Security Department of Vodafone Spain, since September 2017.

Graduated in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and State Lawyer, Otero-Novas has participated in numerous Boards of Directors, and is an expert in Corporate Law and Corporate Governance of Companies and Foundations, corporate and financial operations, commercial contracting, Public Economic Law and tax, regulatory and competition. She also has extensive experience and activity as an arbitrator and as a Lawyer in national and international arbitrations.

Elena Otero-Novas has also been general secretary of the Board and general director of Legal Consulting of Sacyr SA from June 2012 to September 2017 and active State Lawyer between May 1993 and May 2012, during which time, among others destinations, she was State Attorney before the National Court and the Supreme Court.
