Finally, this month the draft that the European Commission has presented for the new Digital Services Regulation was released. One of the many fronts that this new Regulation aims to open is who is responsible for the content that users publish on these technological platforms: Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Airbnb... With the proposed Regulation on the table, what the Commission intends is to establish much clearer, objective and transparent criteria to combat disinformation and incitement to violence and terrorism that proliferate on social networks.
Multinationals will have to be much clearer when explaining why they have removed certain content, and users will be able to appeal to the authorities if they consider that they have been subjected to a case of censorship or abuse.
