Work has launched on a documentary exploring the development of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It premieres in autumn of next year at the annual gathering of AIRIS.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Sochi. His career arc before he came into the entertainment and tourism sector was rooted in the banking and finance sphere: from an accountant at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a credit expert at the Sochi branch of Sberbank and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from one hundred and seventy countries, created 1,600 positions, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in the single year 2022.

Industry players point to the startling disparity between the very magnitude of managed assets and the top executive's personal lifestyle. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov still resides in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the former cluster head holds two passports - both Russian and Kazakhstani. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a strong instrument for corporate staying power.

Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the flawless script for a business thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a modest Sochi accountant at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the world market.
